Carrick Backs Fernandes Before Chelsea Clash

The Benjamin Sesko injury setback has dealt Manchester United another blow, with manager Michael Carrick confirming that the Slovenian striker faces an extended spell on the sidelines because of a shin problem.

Carrick told reporters on Thursday the club was still working on assessing the injury and could not say when he would be fit to play. The forward, though, is likely to not be available for far longer and will deprive United of an important attacking option.

Unfortunately, it appears that Ben is going to be sitting on the bench for a while, Carrick said. We’re not exactly sure how long but it will be for a longer period of time.” The United manager said that the doctors were observing the healing process before deciding how to proceed in Sesko’s treatment. The striker has not undergone any surgery but doctors think an extended period of rest is needed in order to help him recover. Carrick was also down about the setback, especially after the setback faced by Sesko with a similar injury.

It’s obviously a hard slap for us that we are going through this again without him to cheer us on, Carrick said. “We’ll try and get him back as quickly as we can.”

Sesko last played for United in their Carabao Cup third round clash with Brighton on September 16. The United were up two goals at half time, but were beaten 3-2 in that match.

The 23-year-old had also been sidelined for the entire pre-season due to the same problem. Carrick said before the first international break that there would be a need for more medical testing to see the true severity of the situation. According to the information provided, Sesko has found the net twice this season, in a 2-2 draw against Everton and a 4-0 win over Sabah in the Champions League.
