Harry Kane says a Premier League return no longer carries the same appeal as it once did, with the England captain now fully focused on his career at Bayern Munich.
After turning down offers from Tottenham Hotspur and Watford, Kane has spent the last two years playing a pivotal role for Bayern in Germany. The 33-year-old has won the Bundesliga twice as a member of the club, the German Cup and German Supercup.
The forward has been a focal point in his country of birth, England, thanks to his sterling Premier League performance. The chances of Kane returning to the Premier League are always on the agenda, though he is still 47 goals away from the 260 mark that is Alan Shearer’s record.
However, Kane’s latest comments suggest his priorities have changed. Kane said that when he last left (Spurs) it was “for sure that I thought I’d definitely be coming back”.
Kane’s transfer to Bayern has proved to be a huge success at home, and his personal achievements have also been acknowledged. The Golden Shoe in Europe is another testament to his status as one of the top goalscorers in Europe.
Now in the Premier League, Kane looks like he is beginning to settle into his role in Germany and is now in a position to threaten Shearer’s record.
Meanwhile, Kane will be focussed on Bayern Munich and not England. His words may thus put an end to speculation about his Premier League return but his form and position in the English game is unlikely to diminish the likelihood of his name being in the news. Kane has been booked to join Bayern and any plans to return to the Premier League seem to have taken a step back.
