Jordan Henderson’s transfer from Premier League rivals Brentford was finished on Monday when Chelsea revealed the deal. The veteran midfielder has entered a new phase of his career in the Premier League after moving to Chelsea on a two-year deal from Brentford, where he had been a Liverpool captain. Henderson was also part of England’s squad during the recent FIFA World Cup tournament in North America.
Chelsea won the prize in the midfielder after Brentford admitted last week that Henderson’s deal had come to an end since he had drawn interest from their west London rivals. The contract enables Chelsea to sign a very experienced, leader and disciplined top level competitor.
Henderson, after the deal, said that he was unable to pass up joining Chelsea. He mentioned his enthusiasm for the club’s management, the team’s talent, and the club’s plans for future achievements.
The midfielder also spoke of his desire to help his teammates both on and off the field, citing many years of experience in top-flight domestic and international football.
Henderson headed Liverpool through a prosperous era, which saw the club achieve significant success in both domestic and European competitions. Chelsea are a young team and it is hoped his arrival at Stamford Bridge will enhance their leadership.
The move is a testament to Chelsea’s policy of getting younger birds to carry out the club’s plans as well as having older players to mentor the younger players.
