The Premier League games delivered some surprises on Saturday as Liverpool were unable to break the deadlock at 0-0 with Fulham and a late goal was required at the allotment to save Chelsea from defeat at Hull City.
New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, who had replaced Arne Slot, failed to make a clear break in the penalty area at Anfield. Having lost three of his previous four league games, Iraola has three draws left to complete his unbeaten win run and Fulham drew the first point of the season.
Chelsea also had another disappointment at Stamford Bridge today. It was an early Morgan Rogers strike at seven minutes that would give the hosts the lead, before Hull struck twice, this time through Mohamed Belloumi, before half-time to send the promoted team up in front.
The Portuguese international found his form in the 66th minute, with Cole Palmer on the night’s back, scoring from a Cole assist to tie the score. Hull had a brilliant start and are now on eight points in third place while Chelsea are on seven.
It was one of the biggest away results of the day to come from Nottingham Forest, who beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park. Shortly after half time, Liam Delap put Forest on the lead with his first goal, but Alysson soon levelled the game for Villa with a header from a cross from John McGinn. That was put to rest by Igor Jesus in the 88th minute, following a Morgan Gibbs-White cross.
The Ipswich Town side also scored their second win of the season as they beat 10-man Crystal Palace 3-2 in an entertaining fixture. Bournemouth, who are now led by new head coach Marco Rose, were contained at home by Brentford as they and the manager looked for their first Premier League victory. Brentford kept their unbeaten run going with Kevin Schade’s two goals.
